Smith & Hersey
The artists Ivan Smith and Nick Hersey use visual arts practice as a means to reclaim, reinterpret and repopulate
rural and urban environments, by working with sculpture, installation, photography, video and painting.
With an iconoclastic irreverence to the establishment and the environment in which they work, the artists breathe
new life into redundant or empty spaces by carrying out artistic interventions and events aimed at addressing the
way derelict sites are viewed by society in general, and suggesting new and interesting ways of living with and
benefiting from these waste habitats.
During the 4 week project at the Chocolate Factory the artists developed new site specific works, and
documented the results via podcasts, films and updates on their website as well as a one-night only exhibition.
